The arrival of a new, corrupt
procurator in 64 CE, finally
sparked revolt among the
Jews. The ensuing five-year
war, which began in 66 CE and
included the famous siege of
Masada, ended in 70 CE with
the destruction of the Temple.
During this first Jewish revolt,
the small Hebrew Christian
community in Jerusalem moved
across the Jordan to Pella.
